Moving Past the Hurt
Something has been weighing heavy on my heart. I have always been the naive girl that sees the good in everybody. I never believe that people are out to get me, that friends would betray me, that family would lie to me, etc. As time passes though, you quickly learn that betrayal is real and that it comes from the people closest to you. So what do you do? Do you mope around? Do you shut yourself off to all meaningful relationships? Do you still keep those friends and family around? Do you just pray about it?
I imagine that depending on the circumstances people have done a mixture of all of the above. I cannot tell you what is the best route to take. I will say that from experience, you should never let anyone steal your joy. Betrayal happens. Being lied to happens. Arguments happen. How you handle those moments is a direct reflection of who you are as a person. It is also an opportunity to allow God to work through you. Sometimes it is best to cut ties with certain people. Everyone cannot stay in your life on your journey. Other times it is just a matter of taking some time, talking it through, and working it out. Regardless, we must move past our hurt. We can't become shut off to the world, turning our back to love and friendships. Forgiveness is never about the other person, it is about healing for you. You'll never know how strong you are until you have to forgive someone that isn't sorry.
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13
